Unfortunately making resolutions has gotten a bad rep for notoriously being set, but never achieved, however that doesn’t need to be the case.

In fact, setting New Year’s resolutions for 2022 is more important now, given the uncertainty of the last two years as it can provide hope for the upcoming year. Setting clear goals for the year ahead can help improve your relationship with God and help you grow in your faith. Many of the people we speak to have found the last two years very isolating and setting some faith based resolutions can really help you connect with your faith and the christian community. The best thing about New Year's resolutions are that you can do them on your own or with someone else, like your partner or best friend. They also do not need to cost money and can be completely free. You can simply decide to go for a 30 minute run every morning with your partner, not only will you use the time to improve your fitness, you can discuss the day ahead, your family, feelings and joint christian faith.

As we begin to adjust to what is now our new normal, it’s important to set goals and plans to achieve them. Setting goals and making resolutions can shape our behaviour and faith for the better and provide hope! Creating positive habits can improve our happiness and health and make us more connected with those around us – something we have been lacking over the past few years. Whether this is simply dedicating time everyday to reading your favourite bible passages or psalms and building a stronger relationship with God, or taking up a new hobby.

When setting any goals in life, it’s important to actually act on them. I know, it seems obvious, but there are so many people who don’t – hence the notorious reputation., and remember, with God, anything is possible.

So, this New Year, set goals and resolutions to improve your life but also create a set of specific plans and potential obstacles to actively set out to change your life. Future you will thank you.

Before getting started, ask yourself some questions. Put what you want to achieve into perspective to give yourself clarity for your future and always look to God for guidance.

What do you want to take with you from 2021?

Although this year and last have been challenging, there have been some positive things to come out of it too. Whether it has been positive habits that you've picked up, a new hobby or joining an online christian community, new friendships that you have formed or a change in your career, reflect on them and find a moment of gratitude for what you have learnt about yourself and your relationship with God.

If there are any of these experiences that you want to take with you into the New Year, do it! Life’s too short to hesitate. If you’ve learnt what is important in your life as a christian alongside God, and what you want to prioritise more, continue to do that!

What are some aspirations you want to set for 2022?

Ask yourself, what do I want to achieve in this next year? It doesn’t have to be big, just whatever you want to do in 2022 that’ll make you feel happier and improve your life overall, and what will bring you closer to God. It could be starting yoga or building your confidence or even chasing that dream you’ve been putting off for years. We believe that 2022 will see both Australia and the world reopening, therefore it is so important to ask yourself what you want to achieve for your life this year. Part of this reopening will mean you can start to attend church services in person again and engage with other christians who share both your faith and religious beliefs.

Set specific goals, that make you push yourself. After all, a challenge can be anything that you want. If you are single you can use a Christian dating website such as Veemance to connect with christians who share not only the same religious beliefs but are guided in life by the same faith based morals as you are. Research shows that by setting specific challenging and acheivable goals, you are more likely to succeed. Just remember, you’re aiming for whatever makes you happier, and gives you more energy and religious clarity at the end of the day.

Investing in yourself!

What things can you do better in 2022 to take care of your well being? Setting time in the day to spend with yourself, where you can reflect on your feelings, even read some of your favourite bible passages. A wind-down routine, or even more sleep? Every one of us has something we have put off during the pandemic to just make it through, so this year, let’s put you and your beliefs first. Look after yourself and your relationship with God, you deserve it.

Love to you all and God bless,
